In 1995 we opened Spain’s first cybercafé in Oviedo; I got to own 2,000 domains and fewer than 100 remain. I’ve seen more technologies born and die than I can count. And a week ago, at the end of September 2026, I started working with a new partner: an artificial intelligence.

It wasn’t love at first sight. It was a practical question.

The first question

The first thing I asked her was whether she could make changes in WordPress on her own. I run several WordPress sites — madridista.com since the 90s, asturias.net, empresas.net and several new projects — and what was holding me back wasn’t ideas, it was hands, and my lack of «focus». I have many domains, many ideas, and a single pair of hands.

She explained how to give her secure access, and we haven’t stopped since.

How we work

Our dynamic is simple: I lead with one-line messages and she executes. «Publish it.» «Go ahead.» «Remove this text.» «Find more anniversaries.» She takes care of the rest: research, writing, touching WordPress, verifying it turned out well, and letting me know.

On any given night — like tonight — we’ve fixed the asturias.net newsletter form, created 35 Real Madrid anniversaries, redesigned two sociedadlimitada.com homepages and changed menus on three sites. All between ten at night and midnight.

But there’s something I made clear from day one, and it’s the most important thing in this article: I asked her not to always agree with me. If something I propose is wrong or weak, I want her to tell me. If she doesn’t know something, to say «I don’t know» instead of making things up. And to never publish anything in my name without my approval first.

A sycophantic AI is useless. An honest AI is a partner.

What I’ve learned (in case it helps)

If you’re a content creator and want to work with an AI seriously, this is what works for me:

1. Give it context, not just orders. She knows who I am, what sites I run, what tone I use, and which rules are never broken. That context builds over time, but everything you teach her once, you don’t have to repeat.

2. Let it execute, but verify. Review the result, not the process. I don’t watch how she touches WordPress; I check that the homepage turned out well.

3. You decide, she proposes. Nothing gets published without my «publish it». The AI prepares, the human approves. That’s the deal and it’s non-negotiable.

4. Use it for what holds you back, not for what you enjoy. What held me back was technical execution: uploading plugins, creating 100 posts, translating into English (I don’t write in English, out of laziness). Strategy, ideas and judgment are still mine.

The uncomfortable truth

AI hasn’t made me more creative. It’s made me faster. The ideas still come from 30 years of staring at screens and knowing my audience. What changed is that between the idea and publication there’s no longer a week of technical work: there’s a conversation.

My partner never sleeps, never gets tired, and never argues out of pride. But the one who decides is still me. And that’s how it’s staying.

Juan Alonso López, October 2026. Written with the help of my partner, who as always only executed: the ideas and the typos are mine. Yes, I’ve reviewed it manually.

I’ve been on the internet since 1993.
